Holds may be placed on library material that is checked out or not found on the shelf by:
- using a public computer in the library and your library card number and PIN
- from home, work, or on the go through the Library Catalogue using your library card number and PIN
- asking a library staff member to place your hold
A hold is triggered when library material is checked in. Depending on your preferences, you will be informed that your hold is ready to be picked up by our automated phone service, by an automated text to your cellphone, or by automated email. Below is a list of the hold periods for library material.
You can pick up your holds from the Hold Shelf in the library. They are shelved according to the first four letters of your name and the last four digits of your library barcode.
All hold items available for pickup will have a Hold Period of 4 days (from the date it was triggered). If the item is not picked up within the Hold Period, it is removed from the hold shelf and your hold will be cancelled. You can view the hold expiry date for items currently on hold for you through MyBPL.
Inactivating (Freezing) Holds
Once you have placed a hold on an item, you can inactivate it temporarily without losing your place in the queue.
