be placed on library material that is checked out, or not found
on the shelf by:
 |
using
a public computer in the library and your library card |
 |
from
home through the Library Catalogue |
 |
asking
a library staff member to place your hold |
For instructions
on how to place a hold through the catalogue, view our Library
catalogue tutorial

Holding
Process
A hold is
triggered from the time a book is checked in. Kelly (our automated
phone service) will call you to inform you that your hold is
ready to be picked up. Below is a list of the hold periods for
various items
|
Item
Type
|
Hold
Period
(from date triggered)
|
|
| All
items (except DVDs) |
6
days
|
| DVDs |
3
days (effective May 1, 2006)
|
If the
item is not picked up within the Hold Period, it is removed
from the hold shelf and your hold will be cancelled. You can
view the hold expiry date for items currently on hold for
you through your record in the online catalogue. For more
information on how to do this and other ways to manage your
own record, try our View your record tutorial
[pdf].
Inactivating
Holds
Once you
have placed a hold on an item, you can inactivate it temporarily,
without losing your place in the queue. For more information
on how to do this and other ways to manage your own record,
try our View your record tutorial
[pdf].
Fast Track
Items
Fast Track
items are those with more than five holds placed on them. In
order to fill patrons hold requests more quickly, Fast Track
items are checked out for a shorter time period. All limits
apply regardless of what items are being held for you at that
time. See Loan periods,
limits and fines for more details
