READOPOLY is Barrie Public Library’s summer reading game, offered in conjunction with the TD Summer Reading Program. This year it runs from June 27th - August 28th. However children needing to complete their reading to earn their book may report and claim their book prize until the Saturday of Labour Day weekend. Check out the Kids Zone for exciting dates and event details.
Readopoly is a self directed reading program based on a board game format. The reading game encourages both beginning and proficient readers to read and use the library over the summer months. Children may also be read to by an adult if they are not yet readers.
Each year staff use the TD Summer Reading Program theme as the starting point for our Readopoly game. Children from ages 3 years to those entering grade six in the fall are invited to play and may join at any time during the program's time span. Children may also play the game in French when bilingual staff are available. Children may play Readopoly at the Children's Information desk whenever the library is open but are limited to one turn a day. Each square on our "gameboard" suggests an area of the collection to explore, such as sports or picture books or cds. When the child goes all around the board they receive a free book to keep. Children may receive up to two free books each summer but they may play around the board as many times as they like. Registration cards are kept at the Children's Information Desk and the player's progress throughout the summer is tracked on this card. The program is free.
