Barrie Public Library is pleased to present a series of sessions that will deal with a variety of topics related to personal finances, taxation, and the process of manoeuvring through small claims court. Each session provides valuable information to assist you in understanding how to maximize your financial potential while minimizing your confusion along the way.
These sessions are free but space may be limited so first come, first served. These are drop-in sessions and registration is not required.
Small Claims Court - Not just for claims under $10,000 anymore

Effective January 1, 2010, the Small Claims Court monetary jurisdiction is being increased to $25,000.00. This will allow individuals and businesses to resolve more claims in an inexpensive and simple manner. Do you know how to start a Small Claims Court action? Do you know what to do if you have to defend a Small Claims Court action? Barrie Public Library is pleased to present an informative session presented by Sonja Hodis to help you understand the procedural steps on how to start and defend a Small Claims Court action from the beginning to trial.
Sonja Hodis has been practicing law in Barrie for several years. Her practice includes advising individuals and businesses with respect to commencing and defending civil law suits.
Filing Income Tax Online

You’ve been told that filing your income tax online is easy and safe but you still have questions about how it works and what information is needed to submit your return electronically. This workshop will assist you in understanding the ins and outs of what you need to set-up in order to proceed including software options, access codes, file formats etc. to meet the Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
Please note: library staff will not assist with filling out or submitting your tax return. This session is strictly for information purposes.
