Ask a Librarian: Interlibrary Loan
Service
Looking
for something but can't find it in our library? Our Interlibrary
Loan Service may be able to borrow the item from another library.
Any registered member of Barrie Public Library in good standing
may use this service.
For a
new title (published within the last year) you may ask that
we consider purchasing the title for our collection. See our

How to
request an Interlibrary Loan
Information
Services staff will take your requests in person or over the
telephone (728-1010 option 3 or ext. 7020) or e-mail us your
request: please have the title, author's name and your library
card number ready.
How long
will it take?
Service will
be provided as quickly as possible, however waiting times vary
depending on the lending library and the materials requested,
but two weeks is an average waiting time. You
will be notified by telephone when your requested item arrives.
Fees
We offer
basic Interlibrary Loan service free of charge, however, some
specialized libraries and many university libraries charge a
lending fee that will be passed on to the borrower. Photocopied
articles can also involve charges. When you make your request
you can indicate how much you would be willing to pay if a charge
is made by the lending library.
Most libraries
will not ordinarily lend the following types of materials:
- Old,
rare or valuable material
- Reference
and genealogical material
- Audio
and videocassettes, sound recordings, and motion picture
films
- Entire
issues of magazines or journals
- Material
in high demand at the lending library; curriculum material,
including textbooks
- Scripts,
screen plays, libretti, and scores
- Multi-volume
sets
